Nickel silver : copper, zinc and nickel alloy
Nickel silver is an alloy of copper, zinc and nickel which must consist of at least 5% nickel, at least 20% zinc and at least 45% copper.
Nickel silver has several qualities that other alloys do not possess and which make it so successful in use:
- Nickel silver is much more resistant to corrosion than brass.
- It is a particularly hard metal with a low level of oxidation.
- The silvery-white colour of nickel silver and its metallic sheen are particularly appreciated.
- Easy to weld and machine, nickel silver can be worked very well cold.
- For musical instruments, especially the flute, nickel silver is cheaper than silver and is very suitable for
